Creating life-long readers through differentiation, decision-making, and dialogue!
*Daily 5 starts with students gathering on the carpet for a mini-lesson teaching skills and strategies in one of the main literary areas: reading and writing.
*Guided Reading- the reading teacher will meet with small groups of students to conference, coach, or instruct guided reading, with books at their specific reading level or at a level that will support specific reading and comprehension skills.
*Working with Writing- Students write in their writing journals about their reading: favorite part, favorite character, retell the story, etc.
*Working with Words- Students may be building vocabulary, working on decoding skills, working with spelling words through reading, writing, or game-based activities.
*Read to Self- Students choose a book that has an important purpose, is interesting to them, that they are able to comprehend, and use words they are familiar with.
*Partner Reading- Students choose a partner from their group and read their books to each other. Their partner retells the story back to the other student.
*Listening- We are using our iPads for this center!!! The PTO purchased program called Learning A-Z that is on our classroom iPads. Students listen and answer comprehension questions for "Just Right Books" for them.
