Our Writer' Workshop:
Students come to second grade having spent two years writing about important moments in their lives. Now, it's time for them to revisit and re-energize these small moment stories. Small moments are taking a small part of a big event, maybe their favorite part, and only focus on that small part. For example: My family went to the zoo, but I am only going to write about seeing the polar bears. Please talk with your child about a small moment when you have fun activities going on at home! We want our students to be authors who "show not tell" their stories by using vocabulary and emotions to engage their readers.
OUR WRITING GENRE:
-Personal Narratives
-Opinion Writing
-How To Writing
During our Writer's Workshop, the teacher will teach a mini-lesson on skills that are required in second grade. We will be generating ideas, drafting, rereading, revising, and then sometimes publishing our work.
Students have writing journals and folders. Journals are for writing during Daily 5.
